Benedicta Kongaika’s artistic practice centers on reimagining Tongan tapa (ngatu) through contemporary mediums, blending traditional kupesi patterns with modern digital design. Her work draws from her Pacific Islander heritage, exploring themes of identity, faith, and cultural storytelling. She often integrates scripture and ancestral symbolism, creating pieces that connect the spiritual and cultural aspects of daily life. Benedicta’s goal is to preserve and evolve traditional Polynesian artforms, making them accessible in modern spaces such as home décor, fashion, murals, and public installations. Through her brand, Benedicta & Co, she aims to increase visibility for Pacific Islander art, foster community pride, and create meaningful cultural experiences. Her long-term vision is to develop a full studio gallery where heritage and innovation thrive side by side.
